ROAD TRIP BOOK SIGNINGS

Broadcaster/writer Toni Reavis held several book signings on a recent road trip to two Classic American road races, the Quad City Times Bix 7 Road Race in Davenport, Iowa, and the TD Beach To Beacon 10K in Cape Elizabeth, Maine.

The Bix 7, named for 1920s jazz trumpeter, Bix Beiderbecke – who hailed from Davenport – celebrated its 49th running over the last weekend in July. There, Toni signed copies of his book BISIA & ISHAM: The Countess & The P.O.W. at the race expo and appeared on the Paula Sands Show on NBC affiliate, KWQC-TV6.

The Iowa – Illinois Memorial Bridge spans the Mississippi River linking two of the four Quad Cities, Bettendorf, Iowa and Moline, Illinois. It was finished in late 2021.

One week after his trip to Iowa, Reavis attended the TD Beach to Beacon 10K in Cape Elizabeth, Maine.

In 2023, the event celebrated its silver anniversary on the same 5 August date that race founder Joan Benoit Samuelson won her Olympic Marathon gold medal in Los Angeles 39 years earlier in 1984.

In Maine, the extra kicker for Toni came when WCSH-TV6 in Portland conducted his interview for their 207 Show at Bud Light Park, site of the South Portland Shipyard Memorial.

Belgian Unity, the liberty ship Toni’s mother sailed on from Europe to America at the end of World War II, was built at the shipyard.
